2 Kings 22-23 (II Chronicles 34-35)

King Josiah, a godly king

I’m highlighting certain portions out of his life that meant a lot to me. Josiah finds the book (or given after it was found), he reads and then humbles himself personally and then goes to tell the people. What an example of how he responds to the Word of God. He begins to seek God at a young age, made covenant to serve and follow God both personally and as king for his people. Later he held the passover and gave his whole heart to it (representing his love, dedication and commitment to the Lord) and no other time in history did someone do it like he did it. He had a great zeal for the Lord.

Vs. 8 — “And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.”

Vs. 10 — “read it”

Vs. 11 — “heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes”

Vs. 19 — “thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before The Lord”

2 Chronicles 34:3 – “while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father”.

Vs. 31 — “made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord”

2 Kings 23

Vs. 3 — “And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord”

Vs. 25 — “And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the Lord with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.”

2 Chronicles 35

Vs. 18 — “And there was no passover like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did all the kings of Israel keep such a passover as Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.”
